The Excelsior sewing machine poster was first seen on the wall of Rachel Green's bedroom when she moved in with Monica. After that, it has followed Rachel through thick and thin, in all the homes she has lived in after she moved from Monica.
Originally it is a French poster from about 1920 designed by Jean d'Ylen and used as an advertisement for Excelsior sewing machines. The poster contains the text 'La Machine a Coudre Parfaite', which could be translated into something like 'The perfect sewing machine'.
