According to legend, Lagertha was a fantastically skilled shield maiden and ruler or chieftain/queen if you will. She came from what is now Norway, where she was also known as the wife of the famous Viking, Ragnar Lodbrok. The chronicler Saxo documented her captivating history in the 12th century.
