Saivo-Sarvak: A Sami Connection to the Spirit World
Saivo-Sarvak: A Sami Connection to the Spirit World
unless otherwise mentioned in the product description, frames etc. in the pictures are for decorative purposes only and are therefore not included.
This beautiful and simple illustration of Saivo-sarvak is inspired by the spiritual symbols of a Sami shaman drum. It shows two reindeer facing away from each other, symbolizing the connection to the underworld. In Sami mythology, "Saivo" refers to a parallel spirit world, often associated with sacred lakes and mountains, which act as portals between worlds. The reindeer, or sarvak, have a central role as spiritual protectors and guides, helping to connect people with the forces of nature and the hidden worlds.
My version mirrors the reindeer to illustrate the theory of Saivo as a mirrored world where both life and death, the physical and the spiritual are connected in a larger cycle. This motif pays tribute to the deep Sami faith and the eternal balance of nature.
