Tabula orbis, World Map by Lorenz Fries

Replication of an exceptionally beautiful world map, Tabula orbis cum descriptione ventorum, originally by Lorenz Fries somewhere in the 16th century. The map is one of the earliest world maps that uses the name America.
This old map has many interesting details that you don't see on modern maps based on satellites and GPS. For example, Greenland lies directly above Scandinavia, and England and Scotland are drawn as two individual islands.
Likewise, South America is based on pure guesswork, since Magellan did not return from his circumnavigation until several months after the map was first published, and therefore Fries could not use Magellan's updated knowledge of the New World.
